1.  Agitation - the mechanical action loosens soil from carpet pile

2.  Emulsification - for chemical neutralization and suspension of soil

3.  Extraction - to remove soil from carpet

These three steps not only provide deep-down penetration and soil loosening, but also groom the carpet in a correct manner (upwards and not in circles, which can sometimes damage carpet fiber).
